Marriage in the Church of England
Anyone lawfully entitled to be married, and who has not previously been married is entitled to be married at the parish church where they or their partner reside, or where one of them is on the Electoral Roll as a member. This reflects the parish system which is the basic unit of the Church of England, and which ensures that there is a church and a clergy person responsible for the pastoral and spiritual care of people in every place in the country.
We try to observe the parish system when it comes to weddings. This ensures that ‘popular’ parishes are not overloaded, and that people have the chance to develop a relationship with their own parish church.
